One of the major factors which contributed to Adamstown's selection as Ireland's first ever Strategic Development Zone was its location beside national and suburban rail and road networks.
New Train Station, Now Open
On Monday 16 April 2007 Transport Minister, Martin Cullen, TD welcomed the official opening by An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, TD, of the new Adamstown Train Station, the first fully privately funded new station on the Iarnród Éireann network.
The new station forms part of a fully integrated transport interchange that will accommodate the projected 30,000 people who will live in the new development of Adamstown, West Dublin. The station will have park and ride facilities and will also be served by bus.
Speaking about Adamstown, Minister Cullen said: “The Adamstown project is an example of the Government’s progress in delivering public transport services in the Dublin and Kildare region. Together with the private partnership investment and exchequer investment, public transport is being progressed to accommodate travellers and provide them with attractive choices as they travel to work, to shop or go about their daily lives”

Adamstown will also be serviced by two Quality Bus Corridors, with an interim bus service already in operation. This will be enhanced in line with demand in the new year.
There will also be convenient cycle and pedestrian routes which run right through the heart of Adamstown. There will be a new roads network linking Adamstown via the Outer Ring Road to the N4, the N7 and onto the M50 orbital motorway, and to the M4 via the new Celbridge link road.
